Almasi Companies – Small Business Week

ALMASI COMPANIES

IN THE BEGINNING

The Almasi family business started in Woodbridge, New Jersey, over 95 years ago. The founder, John Almasi Sr., immigrated from Hungary to the United States in the 1920s. He launched a jitney bus route from Perth Amboy to Woodbridge in 1926, which was later purchased by Public Service Coordinated Transport during the great depression of 1929. The sale of the jitney bus business allowed John to buy property in Woodbridge and Sayreville to mine clay and launch a trucking and material supply company.

Almasi was known to have some of the best clay around and supplied to such projects as the Lincoln Tunnel, major baseball stadiums, and the Valentine Brick Company.

THE EVOLUTION

Clay mining and hauling was a unique talent that served Almasi well early on and, naturally, led the family to the construction field. Over the years, ALMASI has evolved into a full-service site work and utility contractor with WBENC certification.

Although we are a small business, we have been part of many noteworthy construction projects under the leadership of Bill Almasi, Anne Marie Almasi, and Laura Bianchini. Some of the construction projects completed by the Almasi team include MetLife Stadium, Prudential Center, Memorial Sloan Kettering, Monmouth Service Area, Georgian Court University, Rutgers, Newark’s Revitalization, Hackensack University Medical Center Hospitals, and several pharmaceutical projects dating back to the 1990s.

Almasi has weathered the great depression, the great recession, and everything in between, including the pandemic. We pride ourselves on being a fourth-generation business with many family members involved. We work under the mindset that our employees and clients become part of our family.

WHERE WE ARE NOW

Almasi is currently involved in a Newark Revitalization project and servicing Energy clients. We maintain a specific size as a small business to give our clients the highest level of service and remain personable.

If a construction project is complex, we get the job done safely,” said Laura Bianchini. Almasi’s mantra is “Don’t be the problem. Be the Solution.” We are “Built on Integrity” and make safety a priority.

The Almasi family believes the key to success is their reputation for completing challenging projects with integrity and skill while maintaining safety and cultivating long-standing relationships with clients, colleagues, and employees.
